Φέτος ο εκπρόσωπος της Τσεχίας για την Eurovision επιλέχθηκε ανάμεσα από 8 συμμετοχές. Μια διεθνής κριτική επιτροπή αλλά και το κοινό που ψήφιζε online, επέλεξε τους Lake Malawi με το τραγούδι Friend of a Friend.
Λίγα λόγια για τους Lake Malawi
Οι Lake Malawi είναι ένα indie pop συγκρότημα, από το Třinec της Τσεχίας και αποτελούνται από 3 μέλη, τους Albert Černý, Jeroným Šubrt, Antonín Hrabal.Το συγκρότημα δημιουργήθηκε το 2013 ενώ το όνομά τους είναι εμπνευσμένο από ένα τραγούδι του Bon Iver. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε συναυλίες πολλών γνωστών συγκροτημάτων στην Πράγα όπως τους The Kooks, Mika, και τους Thirty Seconds to Mars, ενώ κυκλοφόρησαν το πρώτο τους album το 2017. Ο κεντρικός τραγουδιστής του συγκροτήματος, Albert Černý, γεννήθηκε στις 17 Φεβρουαρίου του 1989 στην πόλη Třinec . Είναι ο στιχουργός των τραγουδιών των Lake Malawi αλλά και του προηγούμενου συγκροτήματος στο οποίο ανήκε. Ο τραγουδιστής έχει κερδίσει 4 μουσικά βραβεία από την Τσέχικη Ακαδημία Μουσικής Anděl, δύο βραβεία Slavík και ένα βραβείο MTV για το έργο του.

Η Τσεχία στην Eurovision
H Τσεχία μετράει συνολικά 7 συμμετοχές στον διαγωνισμό της Eurovision με πρώτη της συμμετοχή το 2007. Η καλύτερη της επίδοση στον διαγωνισμό της Eurovision ήταν στην περσινή διοργάνωση όπου με τον Mikolas Josef και το Lie to me κατέλαβε την 6η θέση. Η Τσεχία φέτος θα διαγωνιστεί στο πρώτο μέρος του πρώτου ημιτελικού της Eurovision στις 14 Μαΐου.
